Pain that is located at the side of the hip at an area of anatomy called the greater trochanter.  Pain is often worse on the side that you sleep on.  The pain can be along the entire length of the leg (femur) from the hip to the knee as there is a large muscle there called the Tensor Fascia Latae.  Some people notice pain and a tight IT band at the knee.
